Sister Deborah M. Cerullo, SSND, JD, JCL received her bachelor’s degree in her home state from the University of Rhode Island, her Juris Doctorate from Boston University and her Licentiate in Canon law from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy.
Sister Deborah taught law at the University of Notre Dame and Boston College. She gained experience as a staff attorney for secular as well as faith-based poverty clinics before becoming executive director of a law center, co-sponsored by several religious institutions.
In 2003, she opened a private practice where she served as a private attorney and expert in Canon law representing Catholic organizations in Providence, RI. Sister Deborah has also published a book on Catholic school governance, has written numerous articles on Catholic organizations, and has lectured extensively on issues relating to religious life, including “Religious Workers and Immigration Law.”
She is a visiting faculty member for the annual Institute for Law and Religious Life at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania and is a member of the Canon Law Society of America and the Rhode Island Bar Association.
