Father Simmons is retiring after 61 years as a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, he credits the School Sisters of Notre Dame at St. Brigid School for nudging him toward the priesthood.
Urged by the love of Christ and of our sisters and brothers, the School Sisters of Notre Dame work actively toward enhancing just structures that foster the fullness of life and toward changing unjust structures that inhibit it.
In the second paragraph of his 2015 encyclical letter, "Laudato Si', on Care for Our Common Home," Pope Francis reflects on the ways in which the human species has mistreated and abused the Earth, which he calls our "Sister, Mother Earth" in the tradition of his namesake St. Francis of Assisi.

Pope Francis calls us to welcome, protect, and respect all who are forced to flee their home. Let us take time this month to consider ways we can be more welcoming and supportive of the displaced and vulnerable, while also encouraging actions to address the systemic injustices that lead to these situations.
