1 - End deforestation by 2030
2 - The United States recognizes that without halting deforestation and restoring forests, we cannot reach net zero emissions by 2050, and we cannot limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Forests could provide one-third of global mitigation by 2030 – by reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and by enhancing the carbon sequestered from the atmosphere through forest restoration.
3 - Cut global methane 30 percent by 2030
4 - Methane is the main component of natural gas and is also released into the atmosphere from landfills, livestock, and thawing permafrost. This accord is aimed at protecting 85 percent of the world’s forests, which absorb carbon dioxide and causes only a slow global temperature rise.
5 - Cut greenhouse gas emissions in order to reach “net zero” by 2050
6 - “Net Zero” indicates reducing greenhouse gas emissions and/or ensuring that any ongoing emissions are balanced by removals.
7 - Support efforts to Decarbonize the world’s shipping industry
8 - Eighteen nations including the U.S. and the UK, Japan, and Australia agreed to focus on a global effort to decarbonize the world’s shipping.
9 - US-China Agreement
The world’s biggest CO2 emitters, the US and China, pledged to cooperate more over the next decade in areas including methane emissions and the switch to clean energy.
