By Associate Lucy Freeman
Two years ago I took the job as executive director of Caroline House with very little understanding of the work of School Sisters of Notre Dame. I thought they were just another religious group that did good work for the community, helping people less fortunate than others.
Over the years, learning about the history and the driving force behind the commitment to women and children, especially during those times, I could only hope to be as strong as Mother Theresa and Mother Caroline.
I pray for the same passion and resolve these women had, allowing me to give this work my best. I find great value in working for a ministry with such a history of challenges and successes. I often wonder if they expected to develop a ministry that would spread across the world!
I am now an Associate of SSND which affords me the challenge to become a part of their history by making a difference. For this I am honored. Happy 185th anniversary!
This October, Lucy Freeman became an associate of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Together, sisters and associates strive to live out the values of the Gospel of Jesus Christ within the lifestyle to which each is called and to support and enrich each other with their unique gifts. An associate enters into a formal relationship with the SSND community in the form of a covenant: an exchange of promises between the associate and the community that is renewable annually by mutual agreement.
