Sister Cathy Feeney of Woodhaven, NY shared with us a new role she is proudly taking on.
Recently, I was invited to serve on the Advisory Board at St. Saviour High School (SSH) in Brooklyn, my alma mater. Because there is no longer an SSND presence [on the faculty], the Board has made it a point to have an SSND be a part of the Board. Previously, Sister Nancy Gilchriest served in that position. (Sister Nancy is now in leadership, serving on our Provincial Council.)
Upon visiting the school before my first Board meeting, I was amazed at the fidelity to the charism and spirit that was alive after more than 100 years of SSND leadership. The current principal, Carol Timpone, has studied our documents and is committed to sharing the spirit of Blessed Theresa with students and staff. In September the first woman to be featured in the "Women in the Church" course will be Blessed Theresa.
Being a part of the Mission Committee will give me the opportunity to educate the Board and students about our roots, and about the ministries of our international congregation.
